Ballroom!
The ballroom dance class that some of us vineyard youth have taken is awfully fun! We’ve just finished the second week of the class and so far we’ve begun Swing, Cha Cha, and a tiny bit of Mambo. But every time that we get a new step the music gets faster, and therefore so do the steps, and when we don’t get it when it’s slow, it just makes it harder to get when it’s fast! Everyone has a hard time, but it’s still really fun! We laugh at our own mistakes, and then everyone gets refocused and we get it right. All of the professional kids make it look so easy (and there are so many frazes that would fit Micah’s dancing personality perfectly [I say that because a lot of these have to do with the word 'hips'].) It makes you say, “Okay that’ll be pretty easy,” but it never is. The Cha Cha has been our focus this week, and we’ve learned the basic step, the open turn, the underarm turn, the side step, and I’m sure that there’s a little more. In swing we’ve learned the basic, and an underarm/reverse turn. In Mambo we’ve only learned the basic. This is challenging, frustrating, and incredibly fun! I recommend anyone to try this, even if it’s not your style, you’ll get something out of it!
